RIFLE SHOOTING

KIWI DEFENCE CLUB The members of tho above club finalised their shooting season last Saturday afternoon in beautiful weather. The second competition of fifteen shots at 600yds was fired, and some good scores were registered, notably by Rifleman W. Pullar (B grade), who made 70. The Executive Committee reported on a letter received from a brother in distress, recommending that he be kept financial. This action was heartily endorsed by the members. Correspondence from the Grand Lodge intimated the _ opening of two new lodges and a satisfactory increase in membership throughout the dominion. An appeal for assistance from a member residing in the North Island met with a very generous response. The night having been arranged for the half-yearly installations, the D.D.G M. (Bro. A. C. Beveridge) was in attendance, accompanied by a competent set of officers. Ho proceeded to install the following officers: —Bros. A. Lawson (N.G.), M. Denton (V.G.), W. P. Crooko (con.), .1. Johnston (warden). A C. Beveridge (chap.), J. Lawton (LG.); secretary, Bro. H. G. Carson; treasurer, Bro. T. Birrell. D.D.G.M. Bro. Beveridge extended congratulations to the newly installed officers and referred to the fine spirit of fraternity which permeated tho meetings. He urged members to work hard in the interest of their own lodge, not forgetting to assist their brother lodges and so create a spirit of helpfulness which would redound to their mutual benefit. Bro. W. F. Crooko spoke a few words of encouragement, and remarked on tho loyalty of the officers that had boon chosen, and assured the N.G. of every support. The N.G. requested Bro. Crooko to make a presentation of a B.G.’s certificate to Bro. A. C. Beveridge—a worthy brother who had served tho lodge faithfully for a considerable time. Bro. Beveridge suitably replied. Another member honoured by the lodge was B D.M. Bro. 11. R. Hendry, who was the recipient of a B. jewel (suitably inscribed) as a token of long and faithful service, Bro. Crooke spoke in highest praise of the continuous service rendered by Bro. Hendry, and expressed the hope that ho would continue to serve his lodge and the order and attain the highest distinction. P.G. Bro. T. Birrell, a valued officer of the lodge, was created a life honorary member. The following visitors responded to a vote of thanks:— N.G. Bro. E.
