AUCTION SALE. John Reid and Sons Ltd. report a very successful auction sale yesterday at Milton and afterwards at Waronui of mining plant, etc., in the estate of the late James Carruthers. The railway line, being some six miles of lines and sleepers, etc., was the first lot sold, after steady competition, and the rolling stock, comprising railway locomotive, van, and wagons, was all sold. At Waronui the bridges on the line, mining plant, including engines, boilers, etc., and buildings were offered, every lot being sold. There was a very large attendance, the public evincing great interest in the sale.
LONDON WOOL SALES. Messs Dalgety and Co. Ltd. advise having received the following cablegram from their head office, London, dated 16th inst.;—Following is the range of prices realised at first sales of present series:—Half-bred: 56-58 —Good to super, lid to 12d, low to medium 8d to 10 |d; 50-56—good to super. 9d to lOicl, low to medium 6Jd to Bscl. Fine crossbred: 48-50—Good to super. 6Sd to Bd, low to medium 5Jd to 6sd; 46-48 —good to super. 6id to 6|d, low to medium 4jjd to 6d. Cross-bred; 44-46—Good to super. sild to 6id, low to medium 4|d to 5Jd; 40-44—good to super. sid to 6d, low to medium to 5Jd. Coarse cross-bred: 36-40—Good to super. sfd to s|d, low to medium 4Jd to sd. The sales closed active with brisk competition. Home trade were the principal operators. Market improved owing to Continent buying during the last few days, especially Germany. ; As compared with closing rates of last series greasy merino were id to -Jd lower; scoured merino, par to id lower; greasy half-bred, |d to lid. lower; greasy cross-bred, fine, id to lid lower; greasy cross-bred, medium and coarse, |d to id lower; scoured cross-bred, id to |d lower; slipe wool, par to id lower; lambs’ wool, greasy, unchanged. There were offered 112,000 bales; Home trade has bought 48,500 bales; Continent lias bought 44,000 bales. Carried over: Australia, 28,000 bales; New Zealand, 52,000 bales; Cape, 500 bales; of which 67,500 bales were not offered. Total sold, 92,500 bales. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Ltd. received the following cablegram from its London house, under date the 16th inst.: —As compared with last sale’s closing rates prices are lower par to id per lb for scoured merino, lambs’ merino, crossbred slipe; lower id per II) for scoured cross-bred, medium greasy cross-bred, coarse greasy cross-bred, greasy merino; higher par to id per lb for cross-bred lambs; Id lower for fine greasy cross-bred. The sales closed with a fairly firm tone to-day. Home buyers are the principal operators. _ Competition on French account is.fairly active.
