MONIED SHOPLIFTERS. An Auckland Association message states that Gladys Annie Reeve, aged thirty-four, married, was sent to gaol for one month, and her sister, Enid Gasparich (thirty-one), also married, for a fortnight for shoplifting. The former said the latter was under her (Reeve’s) influence. The police declared that the women had no need to steal. One had over £6 with her, and the other over £3. Shoplifting was becoming as common as drunkenness in Auckland. EXPELLED FROM R.S.A. C. F. Riley, a prominent member of the Christchurch Communist Party, has been expelled from membership of the Christchurch R.S.A. ; and has appealed to the dominion executive against the action, which he declares to be unconstitutional, and a miscarriage of justice.
