CARNIVAL NIGHT AT THE SPEEDWAY

Saturday night will bo carnival night at the Speedway Roylc, and the prog rain mo to be presented contains some of the biggest attractions that have yet been offered at this popular amusement arena. The Australian stars will appear in a special Big Four Points’ Mateii Race, and in view of the brilliant and spectacular broadsiding of Tommy Tompkins and Laurie Packer at the opening meeting particular interest will attach to their efforts on Saturday night Tompkins went very close to breaking Squib Burton’s mile record for the track, and as the track itself is in better order than it was on the opening night, it will not occasion surprise if the Queenslander, who lias made himself a great favourite with tho crowd, establishes fresh figures. Packer is no less daring and spectacular a broadsider than tho star of the Davies Park Speedway, and for three seasons past has been the scratch man in Adelaide while he has an international reputation ns a ■ broadsider. The other members of the Australian quartet are Cliff Bysouth and Frank Elms, and they, too, have come here with big names. By south, is ono of the leading rider. 1 - ol tho big Exhibition Speedway in Melbourne, and Elm hails from Sydney so that the meeting of these men in a real match race is calculated to provide fans with countless thrills. There is nothing like broadsiding to chase care away, and tho management is out to invest the whole of Saturday night’s proceedings with the true carnival spirit. Two open handicaps are included on tho programme,. and the Australians will meet tho pick of the local riders including Lionel Homer (who performed so well on the opening night), Jack Young, anc. Jim Nosbit. In addition, other favourites will also—be seen in action iij the local riders’ handicap, while Ernest Coxhead will make an attempt to establish a mile record for the track in a special light racing car. Three Whippet races over hurdles are included on tho programme which should provide a really exhilarating night’s entertainment-
