DOCUMENT REPUDIATED

MR MACDONALD'S EMPHATIC STATEMENT (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, December 22. (Received December 23, at 1 p.m.) Mr Ramsay MacDonald emphatically repudiated a document which is stated to have been in circulation in financial circles in Europe and America which professed to record a conversation with him by an anonymous correspondent. The statement attributed to him was that the British Government would in no circumstance consider the stabilisation of the pound before 1933, and that it was unlikely that England would ever return to the gold standard. “ There is not a word of truth in it. The whole thing is an invention, said Mr MacDonald, when he was shown the document. Ho added: “Tho opinions attributed to me have not oven the shadow of a likeness to the opinions that I hold.”
