LAWN TENNIS
ST. HILDA CLUB The annual meeting of the St. Kilda Lawn Tennis Club was held in the Bungalow Tea Rooms last evening, Mr J. J. Marlow (president) in the chair. Before tho commencement of the ordinary business the chairman referred to the death of Mr K. W. Hail, one of the club’s vice-presidents. The customary tribute was paid to the memory of tho deceased. The election of office-bearers resulted : —President, Mr J. J. Marlow; vicepresidents—Messrs J. J. Tregoar, A. Harris, J. Dobbio, J. M. Beattie, J. Chapman, and Dr R. Findlay Allan; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Hewitt; sole selector, Mr G. Hewitt; auditor, Mr J. J. Tregear; committee—Mrs Tregear, Messrs Barton* Struthors, Smith. C. Beaker, J. W. Dove, L. Sattertbwaite, and Fish. Reference was made to tho fact that Mr Marlow had now served twenty-four years as president to the club. Eulogistic reference to his continuous work in the interests of tho club was made by several speakers, and tho meeting conveyed its heartiest thanks to him for tho ablo manner in which he had filled the position through a long period of years. The club’s opening day was li.\ed for September 27. Messrs C. Beaker and G. Hewitt were appointed tho club’s delegates to the Otago Lawn Tenuis Association. (Received September 10, at 11 a.m.) At Forest Hills Sidney Wood (New York) defeated Coen, (5-2, 1-6, 0-1, 0-1; Rogers (Ireland) defeated Ellsworth Vinos (California), 4-6, 4-6, 6-4, G-l. 6-4. '
