At the dinner following the Southland match the Ranfurly Shield had been handed over to the team, and, although the loss was a severe one to Southland, the union officials had taken the defeat in a fine sporting spirit. Cooke had been taken to a doctor in Christchurch, and later had entered the hospital for an X-ray examination. “ 1 would like to place on record,” Mr Millard concluded, “ my high opinion of the touring team. On and off the field they were a real credit to this union.”

Mr J. Prendeville, chairman, said the team was to bo congratulated on the success of its tour, in winning the Ranfurly Shield and most particularly in defeating tin Canterbury side. Mr Millard observed that the tour had definitely shown that Wellington had a fine team of forwards. Cooke’s injury was on!' 1 a minor one, and he had since recovered.
