(Received August 6, at 10 a.m.) Tho finish of the match was the most exciting of the tour. At lunch Australia declared with one wicket down for 71. Before then Jackson had given a simple catch, and Bradman, who had been struck on the ankle with a ball, limped slightly. The county were set 218 runs to get in 165 minutes, and when stumps were drawn were only 21 short. Bates and Dyson gave their side a good start, until Grimmett carao on at 33, and was immediately successful. Fairfax was expensive, and 100 appeared in ninety minutes. With the loss of two wickets, Bates and Turnbull added 93 before Grimmett effected a separation. Bates had batted excellently and Turnbull cleanly, both scoring at a fast pace. The third wicket fell at 152, and the batsmen were then dismissed at about every 10 runs. They forced the, pace, hut failed to achieve their objective by a narrow margin. _ A doctor examined Bradman, and found that he had slightly strained a tendon in his foot.
