DELANEY V. SHACK

The first contest in the Otago Boxing Association’s programme is scheduled to take place at the Drill Hall on Friday next, when Sammy Shack is scheduled to battle with Bobby Delaney. Shack is a well-performed American fighter, while Delaney is one of the most promising boys of his weight in Australia at the present time, and one who is selected by many good Australian judges to go far in the game. The bout will lie fought at the lightweight limit, and will be over fifteen three-minute rounds. It should be full of incident, fast, and exciting, and Shack will be out to avenge the points’ defeat inflicted upon, him by Delaney when tho pair met in Sydney. There was nothing between them on that occasion, but Delaney was the more consistent, and got the decision, though both men were down during the contest. Shack is an older- fighter than Delaney, and has beaten some firstclass men during his career, among them being Y T oung Nationalista and Pete Nebo (who are highly rated by American writers and promoters), and Johnny Curley (former feather-weight champion of Great Britain) Shack and Delaney should offer a contrast in styles, and there should bo plenty of action iti their meeting from gong to gong, with the issue very open. Delaney is a hard puncher, who is improving with every fight. The principal attraction will be preceded by a good.preliminary', which■ will decide who is to represent .Otago in the lightweight division at the New Zealand amateur championships. The contestants are F. Hood and T. Walker, and a clinking fight is expected. Hood knocked out Walker at the Otago championships, but the latter has a string of knock-outs to bis credit, and may quite' easily reverse the previous decision. A fine night’s entertainment is expected.

_ Bobby Delaney, who meets the American, Sammy Shack, at Dunedin on Friday night, will have his final gym. work-out at Harris’s rooms. Princes street, to-night, at 7.30. His opponent, Shack,‘worked out this afternoon, and to-morrow will do little else but some active work on the road. Both men expect to take the ring in first class conclit tit, and tho result of the bout is very open.
