70 YEARS’ EXISTENCE

ANDERSON'S BAY SCHOOL'S RECORD ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE JUBILEE. On October 4 next Anderson’s Bay \ Public School will have been in existence exactly seventy years. The preliminary arrangements for the celebrating of the jubilee were made last night at a meeting of ex-pupils of the school and members of the School Committee. Mr J. Somerville chairman of the School Committee) presided. In placing the projected scheme of jubilee celebrations before the meeting the Chairman stated that the Anderson’s Bay School was one of the oldest in and around Dunedin. The committee was on the point of spending a considerable sum in and round the school on improvements. The retaining wall was already being built, and the memorial gates would he erected before the celebrations. The Presbyterian Church Committee had offered the use of its building for the holding of a church service, and also a room for committee meetings. The movement in regard to the celebrations was still in its infancy, and ho hoped that all expupils would do their utmost to make the celebrations a success.

Some discussion then took place in regard to the date of the celebrations, and it was finally decided that the memorial gates would be unveiled on Friday, October 5. A social and dance would he held in the evening. On the Saturday a garden party will be held, and the following day there will be a church service.

It was decided to form the Anderson's Bay Public School Jubilee Association, Mr H. Duckworth being elected president. It was also decided to hold a further meeting on April 26, when an executive and various committees will be appointed. In the meantime all those present are asked to get in touch with as many ex-pupils as possible. Mr Parr was elected to compile the roll and_ to attend to the advertising of the jubilee throughout the dominion.
