WIRELESS AND CABLES
AVERTING CUT RATES THE PROPOSED ARRANGEMENT, l Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 11. (Received January 12, at 1.5 p.m.) Although not consulted by either the Eastern or the Marconi Companies with reference to the proposed arrangement, the Pacific Cable Board welcomes the co-operations as a means of averting cut rates, and is hopeful that the Eastern Company and Marconi’s will present a joint recommendation thereupon at the wireless conference on January 16. The Pacific Company, with three Governments’ unlimited resources, considers it would be able to meet cutthroat competition, which nevertheless it wholeheartedly deprecates. The Pacific’s Christmas week traffic was the greatest in the history of the cable. [lt was officially stated that Sir John Pender, on behalf of the Eastern Extension Company, and Sir Gilbert Garnsey, on behalf oi Marconis, have been asked to co-operate in making a joint report, for submission to their _ respective boards regarding a possible arrangement of their joint interests.]
