GILBERT AND SULLIVAN
THE J. D. WILLIAMSON SEASON ‘ Ruddigore,’ one of the brightest and best of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, will be produced for the first time in Dunedin next Monday. It will be interpreted by J. C. Williamson’s speci-ally-organised Comic Opera Company, which contains such well-known artists as Strella Wilson, James Hay, Charles Walenn, John Ralston, Patti Russel, AVinifred Williamson. Bernard Manning. The scenery and mountings are described as magnificent, and the dresses are varied and handsome. The first act is supposed to take place at the picturesque fishing village of Red Herring, in Cornwall, and the second in the great picture gallery of Ruddigore Castle. The music of this new-old opera is described as well up to the usual Sullivan standard, and the book is one of the wittiest of Gilbert’s efforts., ‘ Ruddigore' will be staged for . two nights, and other Gilbert and Sul--1 livan: operas will follow in rapid se- * quence. The box plans for the season opened this morning.
