AUSTRALIAN SEAMEN
INTERSTATE SHIPPING NEW WAGES DEMAND. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, MELBOURNE, April 13. A serious position in connection with inter-State shipping is again threatened. The Federal Management Committee of the Seamen’s Union has framed a new log of wages to he served on the shipowners. The demands are for a big increase in wages, and for structural alterations in many of the vessels trading on the coast. Secrecy has been observed in regard to the proceedings, but it is stated that unless the owners agree to a n immediate conference on the new claims the seamen will be instructed to refuse to sail after a date to be fixed, except where they are engaged on the terms of the new log.’
