TRAINED FILIPINOS
IH COMMAND OF CANTONESE UNITS
MANILA FOLLOWING SOUTHERNERS’ SUCCESS.
MANILA, March 28
(Received March 29, at 10.15 a.m.)
Filipinos, trained in the Insular National Guard under American instructors, are now actively commanding units of the Cantonese army in China. Several of these officers formerly held high ranking posts in the Guard. The Cantonese representatives for over a year offered attractive salaries and commissions to experienced military men. Many Filipinos accepted the offers.
The Cantonese success is arousing the keenest interest in Manila. Each new manifestation of anti-foreignism is prominently displayed in the newspapers, and a society similar to the radical wing of the Kuomintahg is being organised, called the Legionaries del Publo. It lias branches throughout the archipelago, and headquarters at Manila.
