FLOOD DAMAGE
MINISTER’S WEST COAST TOUR [Per United Press Association.] WESTPORT, November 10. The Minister of Public Works made a tour of the coastal road to-day as far as Fox’s River, where further progress was held up by the flood. Ho returned to town - and visited Seddonville in the afternoon. Deputations were heard in the evening, and at a largely-attended public meeting, over which the mayor (Mr C. N. Greenland) presided, the speakers were the mayor and Messrs H. E. Holland, M.P., N. Parker, G. Martin, J. H. P.owell, Roselli, D. J. Archer, E. Skilton, J-Scan-lou, H. Stephen, E. Lock, H. R. Young, and 0. S. Beilby, all of whom dealt with the various phases of the flood damage and relief for the sufferers, river erosion, the Bpller Gorg.-» Railway, and the coastal iroad. The Minister, in reply, promised +o place the representations made before his colleagues, and also stated that he had instructed his engineers t<> stay m the district and make a more extended examination of the river with a view to preventing, as far as possible, v recurrence of the disaster that overtae't the town on tho sth j.nst. The Minister will leave for Mimmisuii ■ morning.
