SATISFACTORY FIGURES [Pfcji Uniikd Pkees Association.] WELLINGTON, November Jo, More than usual keenusss was mamtested in the first wool sale of the New Zealand wool season, winch was held at Wellington to-day, and it was watched closely by all sections ot The community from all parts of the country The unusual interest was caused on the one hand by the hopeful anticipation by farmers of a good season, and on. the other hand by the unpleasant realisation that trade throughout the British Empire had been affected by the British coal strike. In view of the general industrial depression, none hoped for the figures attained at the opening sale of last year, for this was a temporary advance. A slight fall from the March rates was considered satisfactory. ‘ Ninety per cent, of the catalogue was cleared. The total of 11,177 bales offered compared favorably with the offerings of the past two years, the total put forward at the first sale in 1925 being 9,795, and in 1924 7,011 bales. The following' is the range of prices:—

Merino (64/70, 60/64). —Super. 21d to 22$d; average. 17d to 20|d; inferior, Hid to 15d. Fine half-bred (56/53). —Super., 1/d to 19id; average, 12Jd to 16Jd. Medium half-bred (50/56). —Super., 13Jd to 15id; average, 12$d to 14-Jd; interior, 9;]d to Hid. Coarse half-bred (48/50). —Super., 14d to* loid; average, 13id to 14Jd; inferior, 10id. Cornedale, fine cross-bred (46/48) Super., 13d to 14Jd; average, Hid to 13d; inferior, 9Jd to 10|d. Medium cross-bred (44/46).— Super., 12d to ISJd; average, 10Jd to 12Jd: inferior, B]d to 10id. Coarse cross-bred (40/44). —Super., Hd to 12d; average, lOd to Hid; inferior, 7sd to 9Jd.
