EX-GERMAN ROYALTIES

CONFISCATION OF ESTATES HINDENBERG THREATENS RESIGNATION. Prow Awodation—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, June 7. The Berlin correspondent of the ‘ Daily News ’ states that President Hindenherg has made a statement condemning the referendum on the question of the confiscation of the estates of the former German Royalties, and declaring that ho will resign if it is carried. The President’s intrusion has angered the Republicans and delighted Ihe Monarchists. Even the latter did not expect such vehement language. The statement, after declaring that t.lrn President must reserve liberty of action as provided by the Constitution until the result of the vote is known, adds: “I, who have spent ray life in the service of the German Emperor, regard the plebiscite as a great injustice, a grave lack of traditional sentiment, and an act of gross ingratitude. Emm a legal aspect it is a highly lamentable onslaught against the structure of the State, whose firmest foundation should ho respect for the law of property. It offends the foundations of morality and law, ami it will undermine one of the pillars on which the State reposes, and open the wav leading into a steep pit.” The publication of the letter has caused a sensation throughout Germany.—Sydney ‘ Sun ’ Cable.
