Colonel Reginald Klian, war correspondent of ‘ Le Temps,’ was killed on the Erkeur route while cn route to visit the French advanced posts. Abdel Krim is now on the defensive. The Rift's have not attacked since their demonstration before issiual from September 8 to September 11. They are digging trenches and dugouts and endeavoring to obtain recruits and to check tho submission of tho tribesmen; but Abdel Krim does not admit defeat. His envoys cry from the mosques that the French and Spanish will be eventually compelled to retreat, and this is sufficient to terrorise the wavering tribesmen against surrendering.— A. and N.Z. Cable. AJDIR IN DANGER. MADRID, October 1. A communique stales: “Profiting by the confusion among tho enemy as a result of the victorious advance of September 29, we to-day continued our advance. We occupied this (Wednesday) morning Adrar Sed-dun, an important post near Ajdir, completely dominating with its guns Abdel Krim’ j village. The enemy are resisting feebly. A later message says that Ajdir is in flames, including Abdel Krim’s home. —Reuter. ANOTHER FRENCH ADVANCE. PARIS, October 1. Following the Kiffane success, the French troops advanced northwards ten miles upon a sixteen-mile front. Messages state that Abdel Krim is giowing desperate. Letters have been Sound on prisoners and dead in which lie orders the tribesmen to resist to Iho last and kill their wives and children rather than surrender territory.— A. and N.Z. Cable. ADVANCE ON AJDIR. SPANIARDS ESTABLISH BASE. MADRID, October 2. (Received October 3, at 1.30 a.m.) With tho recent captures ,of tho heights, including A.drar Sed-dnn, a communiqnie claims that the Spaniards completely established the military base required for the advance on Ajdir, and are now masters of practically tho whole of Alhupemas Bay. The newspapers are jubilant.—Reuter. FRENCH ADVANCE HALTED, ALL OBJECTIVES GAINED. FEZ , October 2. (Received October 3, at 11.25 a.m.) Tho French operations on the Kiffane front are temporarily at a standstill. The French troops brilliantly carried all the heights strongly held by the enemy and reached all their objectives. The French losses during the two days’ offensive were only fifteen killed and fifty wounded. The Air Force carried out sixty bombing raids yesterday.—Reuter.
