JUSTICES’ ASSOCIATION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Tho Canterbury Justices of the Peace Association (iuc.) was established in June, 1918. Since that date other associations have been established in various other centres of tho dominion viz., Wellington, Auckland, laranaki, Wanganui, Greymouth, and Oamnm—seven associations witli several branches—the very notable exceptions being Dunedin and Invercargill. In 1919 I personally made a strong effort to draw Dunedin into line, letters advocating such a course being published in both the ‘Star’ and the ‘ Otago Daily Times.’ Soon after, i rot in touch with a Mr W. A. Russell J.P., of Dunedin, also Mr Mark Cohen, M.L.C., but the effort was rosultlcss. Within the past six months Oamam and Greymouth have joined up. Very recently I have made several personal efforts to get Dunedin to wake up, but up to the present without suecess. On October 13 and following days our second annual conference will bo held —this vear in Christchurch (last year in Wellington). His worship the mayor will extend a welcome to the delegates in the municipal chambers. It was Imped that the Dunedin justices would liava taken tho project; on, and that delegates would have attended the conference. There is yet time if no time is lost in convening a meeting of justices and resolving that an association of justices bo formed. It only requires a lew energetic justices move in tho matter. Our association will ho pleased to give every assistance possible.—! am, etc., J. Russell Brunt, Secretary Canterbury Association. Christchurch, October 2.
