“ It is extraordinary,” said the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) during an application for a discharge in bankruptcy made in the Wanganui Supreme Court to-day. It was stated that the bankrupt had sold his farm at Raetihi and had made a profit of £5,000, and then lost the lot in bis next land speculation. “It shows the wild way of people gambling in land,’ ’ added _His Honor. “1 spoke from the benth when the thing began. The newspapers said I knew nothing about it. I have known of three crises in New Zealand when people went mad and purchased land at ridiculous prices when they could not possibly pay. This seems to be a similar case.”—Our Wanganui correspondent.
