DAIRY PRODUCE

SOME STATISTICS. Messrs A. 11. Turnbull and Co., Christchurch, forward tho following report on our dairy produce.—■ The following are tho top London prices for the past month :

BUTTER. From the above quotations it will he seen that butter made n slight recovery at tho end of last month, but has now fallen again, to 2(Ms per cwt. All indications arc for a general weakening in butter prices from now onwards. Arrivals' of New Zealand butter -during December and January will show an increase on last season’s arrivals; but wo are of tho opinion that tho heavy shipments from Australia will have a greater influence in weakening tho market. Forward buyers of butter show practically no mtcrest, even in shipments now leaving Now Zealand, whilst it is impossible to get buyers to bid for December make or anything further forward. CHEESE. Cheese declined slightly during tho last two weeks of November, but has now shown an improvement, and there is a firmer tone in tho market all round. Ibis is caused by the fact that Canadian stocks are now practically exhausted, and buyers are forced to rely on arrivals from. New Zealand, which up to date are small. The general feeling Is that cheese may firm to some extent up till Christmas, win ret, it is unlikely that there will be any heavy decline until well on in January. However, we anticipate that when the heavier shipments from New Zealand make themselves felt we will have a weaker market. This is borne out by the fact that forward buyers have paid as high as Bjd for November make, whilst they do not r-eem prepared to otter more than 8d for December make or anything further forward. STATISTICS. The following statistics, showing the comparison of shipments and gradings for the past, three years, reveal that there is a heavy increase in butter gradings for this season over last, whilst there is an. appreciable decline in. choose gradings ;
