BURNSIDE STOCK SALES

FAT CATTLE PRICES FIRMER. Increased prices were ruling for fat cattle at Burnside sales to-day. Thoro was no marked change in sheep prices. Sheep.—There was an entry of 2,079, as agninst 1,478 last week. The quality was medium to good. The sale opened rather quietly, and there were some (passes. Prices then finned a bit, and clearance was effected at about the higher rates of a week ago. Heavies were down about . Is. Extra prime heavy-weight wethers reached a top price of 645; prime, 46s to 50s; medium, 41s to 445; lighter, from 355. Extra prime heavyweight ewes sold at up to 495; prime, 3os 9d to 365; lighter, from 2Ss. About sixty hoggets were included in the entry, and sold up to recent quotations. Fat Cattle.—A yarding of 210 head, the quality ranging from fair to good, with a sprinkling of unfinished animals. The opening demand was bright, and prices disclosed an increase of some 10s on Inst week's rates, while there was every prospect of good prices being maintained throughout the sale. Fairly early in tho sale prime quality bullocks brought from £l6 to £l7 17s 6d, and lighter animals from £9 5s to £l4. Prime cows sold at from £7 10s to £9 15s; lighter cows from £6 to £7 ss. Hellers fold up to £lO 10s, and lighter sorts from £7 10s to £8 15s.

Store Cattle.—A yarding of 220 head. The entry was a mixed one. and included a number of station cows and yOung sorts. There were only a few pens of medium three-year-old steers, which sold at from £6 10s. Two-year-old steers brought from £4 12s, meeting a fair demand. Station yearlings brought from 28s to 555. Pigs.—An entry of 125 fats and thirtyfive. stores. Prices were firm at last week’s rates. Heavy baconers brought from £5 15s to £6 Is"; light bnconers from £3 15s to £4 12s 6d; best porkers, from £2_ 14s to £3 ss; and Hfht porkers from £2 upwards.
