(Received August 20, at 10 a.m.) The resumption of the test match was delayed 'till noon owing to the dampness of the wicket. Later tho sun was shining, but the weather was threatening. With the score at 402, Gilligau was caught. When the total was 421 tor eight wickets rain compelled the abandonment of play. (Received August 20, at 1,50 p.m.) The batsmen forced the pace on an easy wicket. Tho South Africans’ total was quickly passed. Uendrcn was particularly vigorous, but his exhibition was by no means flawless. Ho batted IBSmiu nnd hit two 6’s and fourteen 4’s. He was badly missed several times off Pegler. Gilligan also was lucky, being dropped thrice. Tho pair added 75 in forty-five minutes. A thunderstorm swamped the ground, and the match was abnndoned after fortyeight overs, of which four were maidens. Scores:— Sonin Afiuca. [England won both the first and second tests by an innings and 18 rims. By declaring their first innings closed in the second test with two wickets down for 631, England easily created a record for test cricket. Hobbs mndo 211, Sutcliffe 122, and Woolley 134 not out. In their first innings in the first test South Africa were disposed of for 30, tho smallest aggregate in test matches. England won tho third test by nine- wickets, and the. fourth was abandoned owing to rain.
