PLUNKET SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of the committee of the Royal New Zealand Society for tho Health of Women and Children was held in tho Plunket rooms yesterday morning at 10.30 o’clock. Present: Mrs Johnstone (in the chair). Lady Ross, Afesdames Jas. Al‘George, Tneomin, Sidey, Peter Barr, A. C. Mathicson, G. Gallaway, John Watson, Coleman, Isaacs, Barnett, O’Neill, Fraser, J. C. M ‘George, Carmalt Jones, Miss Gow, and the secretary. Apologies were received from Mesdames C. W. Rattray, Sidney Neill, Clapporton, W. A. Moore, and Jackson. Tho hon. treasurer presented the statement of the society’s finances to date, and accounts were passed for .payment. The hon. eccretary reported that tho receipts for the month included a number of subscriptions and donations. Remits from the branches to the general conference of tho society to be held in Wellington on. September 2 and following clays were read and discussed. Aleadamos J. A. Johnstone, D. E. Theomin, Jas. M'George, C. W. Rattray, T. K. Sidey, W. A. Moore, A. Barnett, Fraser, and Aliss Downie Stewart were appointed delegates to the conference. The matron .of tho Karitane-Harris Hospital reported for the month of July : Number of patients in hospital on June 30 (mothers 1, babies 17), 18; number admitted for treatment during July (mothers 7, babies 17), 24; number discharged during the month (mothers 6, babies 15), 21; number in hospital in July (mothers 2, babies 17), 19; greatest number in hospital on any one day (mothers 2, babies 22), 24. Of the mothers and babies admitted during the month, one mother and triplets came from Dunedin, one mother and baby from Middlemarch, one mother and baby from Clydovnlo, one mother and baby from Mosgiel, one mother and baby from Alexandra, and one mother and’ baby from South Dunedin. Of the babies admitted during the month, one came from Kaitangata, one from -Sandymount, and the remainder came from Dunedin and suburbs. There are eighteen Plunket nurses in training. Nurses M'Lenu and Barnett commenced a pourso of Plunket training during tho month. There are eleven Karitane nurses in training. Nurse Calder finished her Karitane course during the month. The Plunket nurses’ examination was held on Thursday, July 31. Visitors for the month numbered 130. Airs Pine Bcyea, from lona (U.S.A.), visited the hospital, and was much interested in the methods carried out. She gave a very_ interesting address to the nurses, ‘ Service.’ Gifts were gratefully received from Mesdames Theornin. Duke, Rattray, and the Gleudining Home. The Plunket nurses for north and central districts reported for the month ended July 31 N umber of babies on the list, 620; number of babies breast fed (including partly), 129; number of new cases for the month (babies only), 30; number of new cases breast fed (including partly), 29; number of visits to Plunket rooms, .Stuart street (adults 212, children 203), 415; number of visits to Plunket rooms, Roslyn (adults 60, children 66), 125; advice given to expectant mothers, 8; number of visits paid to homes, 331; number of bottles of humanised milk sent out from the Taieri Dairy, 6,595. The Plunket nurse from South Dunedin district reported for the month : —Number of babies on the list, 420; number of babies breast fed (including partly), ICO; number of new cases for the month (babies only), 20; number of new cases breast fed (including partly), 17; number of visits paid to homes, 275; number of visits to Plunket rooms, South Dunedin (adults 135, babiee 128), 265. ■ The Plunket nurse for Anderson Bay district and outetations reported for the month :—Number of babies on tho list, 219; number of babies breast fed (including partly), 80; number of new cases for the month (babies only), 15; number of new cases breast fed (including partly), 12; number of visits paid to homes, 194; number of visits to Plunket rooms. Stuart street, from Anderson Bay district (adults 29, babies 29), 68; number of visits to Plunket rooms, Alosgiel (adults 39, babies 38), 77; number of visits to Plunket rooms, Port Chalmers (adults 28, babies 29), 57. Tho following visits were paid to outstations during the month Alosgiel 5. Wingatui 3, Abbotsford 5, Green Island 4, Burnside 4, Port Chalmers 6, Sawyers Bay 5, Ravensbourne 5. The Plunket nurses reported that the general health of tho babies under their care during the month was very good.
