H11.1.-CXIMUIS'C COXTEST. The annual hill-climbing contest for cars and motor cycles conducted under the auspices of the Otago Motor Club was held at Botlnme's Gully on Saturday afternoon, the road chosen for the trials being tiro short cut. to the Upper Junction* There was a. record attendance, and some very fine performances were put up. The car results were decided on a formula, not on speed, but on the cubic capacity of engine multiplied by time, divided by; weight of the vehicle with driver and passengers. The electric timing device erected by Messrs G. Shcrriff anti T. Scott was very.effective, and recorded the times with remarkable accuracy. ■ Mr J. L. Passmore acted as starter, Mr A. E. Anseli aa judge, and Mr W. Wright as steward of course, while Mr P. Breen marshalled the cars. The road was dry and in good condition, and no accidents occurred, although two of the motor cycle competitors came off at tlie bends, but escaped injury.
