MYSTERIOUS SHOT

MAN WOUNDED IN STREET. [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, January 14. An extraordinary shooting case occurred in Cashel street a little after 6 o’clock this evening, when Donald Ferguson, who subsequently gave his address as the Royal Hotel, Timaru, was shot in the right hip. As is customary at that hour the street was practically deserted, According to Ferguson’s statement he was drinking at the fountain when a bullet hit him. Two policemen at the corner of Cashel and Colombo streets heard an explosion, and soon afterwards Ferguson came to them and complained that he had been shot. An examination revealed that he had been hit by a small calibre bullet. An inquiry at the hospital revealed the fact that his condition is favorable.
