MENTAL PATIENT'S DEATH.

NURSE CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER. {Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 20. In the Magistrates Court, Edith. May Armstrong, a nurse at the Porirua Mental Hospital, was charged with manslaughter, having by the omission of a legal act caused the death of a female patient. Tho evidence showed that tho deceased was a diminutive woman about five stone in, weight, very feeble pliysically and mentally, and that, tho nurse bathed her, having, contrary to the regulations, put hot water in the bath first, instead of cold, but being satisfied by feeling that tho water was not too hot, The .patient was slightly scalded, and. though making ' good recovery, collapsed and died four days later of shock. Dr Monaghan said that deceased's condition was such that any slight sickness might, cause sudden death. Tho heart was only half the normal weight. _ Other witnesses said the deceased did not complain of burns. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed ror trial.
