LATE HON. GEORGE JONES
MEMORIAL ARCH UNVEILED. [Special to the ‘ Star.’] OAMARU, November 28. Sir R. Stout unveiled -a. memorial arch to the Hon. Geo. Jones, M.L.C., in the main street of Oamaru. to-day. After an interesting address'on civic duty, in the course of which he referred to tho late Mr [Jones as one imbued with love of liis follows, Sir Geo. Fenwick, representing ■newspaper proprietors, spoke oi: _ Air Jones’s early ventures in journalism, ■especially in Dunedin, when the two men were associated wjth the late G. M. Reed. He paid a tribute to Mr Jones’s honesty and tenacity of purpose, high mental attributes, and even higher ideals. The Hon. jE. P. Lee, in tho course of a glowing eulogy of the worth of Air Jones’s labor® to North Otago in particular and the dominion in general, said he always^had in view the betterment of tho community. THe Regimental Band, with which Air Jones was for vears successfully associated. played Beethoven's ‘ Funeral March.’
