HIGHER PRICES FOR SHEEP AND FAT CATTLE. Fat cattle were in short supply at tho Burnside sales to-day, and as a result of the spirited bidding enhanced prices were realised. At the time of going to press prices showed an advance of fully 15s per head above last week’s rates, and there was a prospect of a further rise before the close of the sale. There was a moderate entry of sheep, composed principally of heavy and light-weights, good mediumclass sheep being scarce. Competition was very keen, and prices all round showed an advance of about 2s per head) as compared, with last week's rates. Two hundred and fifty lambs were offered, which was the largest entry this season. Competition was brisk, but prices were easier to the extent of about Is 6d pier head. About thirty head of dairy cattle were offered, non© of the animals of outstanding merit. Good cows realised from £9 to £lO, and medium sorts from £5 12s 6d to £7. There was a large entry of pjgs, which met with a’brisk, demand at prices about equal to those realised at the previous sale. Sheep.—l,94B head of fair quality. Extra prime heavy-weight woolly wethers realised' from 48s 6d to 555; prime, 58s to 46s 9d; medium, 24s 6d to 355; extra prime heavy-weight shorn wethers, 5Ss 6d to 42s ; prime, 30s to 37a 7d ; medium. 24s to 29s oil. Prime woolly ewes realised up to 50s; medium, 350 to 455; lighter sorts, up to 28s sd; prime shorn ewes, up to 355; medium, 20s 9d to 30s 6d. Spring Lambs.—A yarding numbering 250 head, of good quality. Prime lambs made up to 36s 6d; medium, to 28s 6d; lighter kinds, to 255. Fat flattie. —A yaiding of 140 head. The quality was not up to the usual standard, extra prime cattle being scarce. At the time of going to press prime bullocks made from £l2 10s t0,£13 15s; medium, £lO to £l2; lighter sorts from £8 to £9. Prime oows and heifers realised from £5 15s up to £6 10s. . Store Cattle.—A medium yarding, winch included a few pens of three and four-ycar-old bullocks from tho Waimate district. These were not in a very forward condition, and sold up to £6 13s per head’. There was a very poor demand for young cattle and half-fat cows, and many were passed unsold. Pigs—A large yarding, all classes being represented. There was a, keen demand for prime baconeu's. Best bivcouers realised from 6d to 6£d, and best porkers from 7d> to per lb.
