OTAGO SUMMER SHOW

OPEWIHG TO-KOBBOW. The annual Metropolitan Show of fh® Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society is to be opened to-morrow at Tahuna Park, and continued on Thursd aj. It will be a great show, particularly in live stock, summing up the results at other big show's, such as those of Christchurch and Oamaru. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Agriculture regret that they cannot attend. The Ministry will be represented by the Hon. W. Downie Stewart. The judging of sheep, cattle, and Clydesdale horses is to start at 10 a.m. sharp. Two of the judges come from the North Island. Mr J. E. Hewitt, of Mangaraer© (Pahiatua) is to judge the Romney sheep, and Mr A. Montgomerie, of Kauwhata (Palmerston North), is the judge of the Ayrshire cattle. There is a large and representative entry of Corriedales, some of the exhibits coming from Bushy Park, Southhridgo, %h© Mooraki estate, Waihao Downs, and Woodgrovd (the Hiihihulu flock). The reason for the special display in this breed of sheep is the great demand now existing for the finer classes of wool, and for the mutton of the Corriedalo. The Corriedales are regarded as equal to the best English breeds. Hunting and jumping competitions are arranged for to-morrow afternoon. In last night’s ‘ Star ’ it was stated that the North Otago breeders objected to send their stock by the special train which the society end the Railway Department both thought would he nailed ns a convenience. By a misprint, this appeared to relate to the North Otago breeders generally. As a fact, only two objected to sending their stock by the special. They are, however, anxious to compete, and both breeders will bo represented, one having sent his cattle by a train which arrived ah Dunedin, at 3 o’clock this morning, and the other advising that his stock would reach town by a train arriving about noon to-day.
