PACIFIC HARRIERS

The committee of the Pacific Harrier and A. A. Club in its annual report states ;

Although not achieving the successes of the previous season, the club still maintains a prominent position in amateur athletics in this city. During the season eighteen runs and races were held, with on average attendance of twenty-four. This average is by ho means high, and the committee "trusts that every member will, during the coming season, take a live interest in the welfare of the club, if not by taking part in the various runs, bybeing an interested spectator. For attending every run during tiie season the following received attendance badges; Seniors—Messrs M. S. Hill, A. E. Grey, G. E. Brown, C. H. M‘Lcan, H. 1?. Eertl, L. E. Jordan; juniors-—J. J. Grey, 11. Brown, C. Muir, W.. 11. B. Hobbs. The special gold budge embodying the club’s full monogram (P.H. and A.A'.C.) was presented to Messrs R. G. Ferguson and M. Levy for attending every run for threeyears. . The committee desires to acknow- 1 ledge with thanks donations and prizes \ from the following :—Miss Henderson, ] Messrs T. K. Sid-y. M.P., C. W. Clark, G. Austin, F. M. Perkins, C. E. Branson, T. A. Dawson, T. P. Williamson, W. Stark, W. G. Brown, .0. C. Harvey, H. Clark, J. A. Bond. Thanks are also duo to Mr and Mrs T. K. Sidey, Mr E. A. Rosevear, and those members who entertained the chib during the season. All harriers are under a debt of gratitude to the farmers and land owners around the city and in the vicinity of Wingatui. The Otago provincial championships were controlled by the Otago Centre, N.Z.A.A.A., and the committee congratulates the University Club on retaining the banner with a score of 31 points, this club being second with 29 points. The Now Zealand cross-country championship was run at Wellington, and it was pleasing to note that Mr A. E. M. Kerr, of this c’ub, made one of the Otago team, and performed well, running into twelfth place. ’Wellington gained first place with 12 points, Otago being second. Numerous meetings have been held this season in various parts of the island, at which several of our members have competed with success, those figuring as prize-winners being Messrs E. B. -Stewart, G. Kennedy, A. M. M‘Lachlan, J. H. Harris, A. Duff, W. H. B. Hobbs, R. W. Morrison, H. P. Berti, J. Cameron, M. S. Hill, J. W. Harvey, R Swinney, A. Lorimer, and the club’s senior and junior relay teams. The committee wishes to record its appreciation of the services of Mr A. W. Mercer a.s handicapper, selector, and coach, and his assistant, Mr W. Stark. Mr Geo. Kennedy was the winner of the club’s five-milo cross-country championship, and is therefore the holder of the chalenge cup for this season. The committee records with regret the removal to the North Island of two energetic members, Messrs Alex. Kilgour and A. E. M. Kerr. The club is to be congratulated on its sound financial position, the balance-sheet as presented showing a credit balance of £lO Os lOcl.
