Alessrs Alex Harris and Co. report having submitted several freeholds at auction at noon to-day. Lot 1 was a sevenroomed residence (corner of Highgate and Sheen street), being allotment 1, township of Roslyn. Great interest was shown in this place, and it was eventually knocked down to Air Arthur Sunderland for £9OO. Lot 2 was a six-roomed dwelling, No. 10 DeCarle street, St. Kilda, opposite Reserve, and lot 3 was a fiveroomed dwelling, No. 66 Forbury road, Kew. These places did not reach'the reserve, and are still for sale.

The revenue account of the Christchurch Tramway Board for the year ended March ol shows a deficiency °f £1,257, as against a surplus of £2,741 i'o r the previous year. The earnings were £205,9(6. operating expenses £145,960, and standing charges £61,203. The position was regarded °as satisfactory, considering the increases in wages and the cost of material, and the trouble incurred. The deficiency is the first since the inception of the tramways. A Press Association message from Timnru states that the Potato Growers’ Association take exception to a statement by merchants that potatoes can be grown for £!4 per ton. Ihe average cost is considerably more, and growers are entitled to a fair return. Owing to late frosts, crops are lighter than was anticipated in this district.

The Dominion Butter Committee are to meet in "Wellington on Friday regarding the recent cables from London in respect to the next season’s exportable surplus. The committee will meet the Prime Alsnister on Friday, when the views of the producers will be communicated.
