SEIZURE OF GERMAN SHARES,

'LONDON, April 12. Definite steps towards the fulfilment of the financial clauses of the Peace Treaty are heralded by semi-official Berlin advices foreshadowing the seizure of all Ger-man-held shares in companies in allied countries. _ Compensation will be granted on the basis of the quotation of such shares as on January 10. MAHSUD CAMPAIGN. , Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. * SIMLA, April 12. Advices dated April 8 state that the Derajat column returned to .Kaniguram after ‘two days in the Mahsuds’ country. The- Nazir Gihakhel’s Mahsuds who delivered up their rifles did not resist the column, hut Aboul Rchmankel’s tribes, assisted by the Shakai Wazirs, refused to deliver liieir rifles. The tribesmen oc cupied a precipitous ridge, which the Gurkhas carried against heavy fire. Our casualties were light and the enemies' wore heavy. , IRISH STRIKE. ‘The Times.' LONDON, April 12. The Irish Labor Party have ordered a general strike on April 14' as a protest against the treatment of the. hungerstrikers. They allege that many of them are dying. ENGLAND AND FRANCE. In the House of Commons, replying to questions, Air Bonar Law said : “ A difference, which the Government greatly deplore, has arisen between the British and French Governments, but the exchange of Notes justifies the belief that both Governments recognise more than ■eves' the necessity of maintaining an intimate cordial agreement in the settlement of the great questions now confronting them in Germany and elsewhere. The approaching conference between 'the heads of the allied Governments will no doubt serve to confirm and .consolidate a complete understanding between the two Governments. Therefore discussion is undesirable.” Air Bonar Law added that there was no truth whatever in the statement by sections of the Press that there had been anv difference of opinion in the British Cabinet with regard to the matter.
