OBITUARY
The oldest resident of Burwoocl, Christchurch, in the person of Mr Caleb Sclfo died last week, in his 89th year. The deceased was born at Newbury, Berkshire, England, where he was married. With his wife ho came to Now Zealand in tho ship Roman Emperor, early in 1860. Tho following year _he took -part in the gold rush to Gabriel’s Gully, reaching that place on foot from Port Chalmers via the Taieri Plains. Air Selfo snent nine months at Gabriel’s Gully, with varied success, and then retrace’d his steps to Port Chalmers, and returned to Christchurch. He purchased a holding at Burwood, he resided until his death. His wile predeceased him some four years ago.
