FIRES
Several calls -were received by the City Fire Brigade to-day. The first was at 8.35 a..m. to No. 24 Driver’s road, Maori Hill, where tho house owned and. occupied by Mr IT. Lancdon had caught alight owing to the overheating of the boards by a painter’s glow-lamp. The outbreak was quickly extinguished, only slight damage being done. The house is insured for £350 and the contents for £2CO with the Northern Assurance office. The nesfcall came from the upper end of Maclaggnn street, gdicre the brigade's services were required to deal with a, gorse and grass fire. The firemen had no difficulty in extinguishing the flames, no damage being done. A chimney fire in a house in Cargill street claimed The brigade's attention at 1.30 p.m. No damage was done. At 1.4S p.nUj A.hi.- bjigado received another call to 49 Lee street, where a fire had broken out ip the house owned and occupied by Mrs IT. g. Reynolds. The mantlepiecc of the room in which the outbreak occurred was badly damaged, but the prompt manner in which the brigade got to work prevented the fire from spreading.
