EMPIRE. Knighted for his achievements on the dramatic stage, the life of Sir Johnston Forbes-Robertson might servo as an inspiration to the straggler in any of the artistic professions, for it has been marked by a never ceasing desire to give the worldi bis best, no matter how great the effort. Although he retired from the speaking stage two seasons ago, Sir Johnston was finallv persuaded to enact his favorite role of The Stranger in 'The Passing of the. Third Floor Back,' bv Herbert Brenon, when the fact was pointed out to him that his characterisation of the lovable passer-by was one that should be added to the permanent archives of the screen. _ ' The Passing of the Third Floor Back' is now being shown at the Empire Theatre, together with a good supporting programme. KING'S. Mrs Chariie Chaplin ('Mildred Harris) is starred in the leading role in ' Forbidden,' a six-part Jewel film, which heads the current bill at the King's -Theatre. The story centres round a little country maid who— for the gay life of the city and a big city man who craves the simple life of the country. Being a wise man, the husband determines to give her what she wants, but to make it an " overdose." A great programme of supplementary films includes a comedy, 'Fatty and Mabel's Simple Life.' QUEEN'S AND KING EDWARD. An attractive programme of pictures is now being shown at the above theatres. The feature "film is a Select production entitled 'The Indestructible Wife.' In this picture the wife is an athlete of no mean ability. Her husband, on the other hand, likes the simple life. A strong supporting programme includes comedies, gazettes, and subjects for children, also .No. 3 of the ' Stingaree' serial. EVERYBODY'S. The nature of the picture is indicated in the title, "Maid o' the Storm,' and the storv is romantic fiction from start to finish. It is well produced and photographed, and iB an excellent vehicle for the charnrmg Bessie Barriscale, who plays the part of Ariel, the ocean waif, who becomes a great dancer. Another good picture on the programme submitted is a further episode of the Pearl White serial ' The Raider.'
