SYDNEY, December 25. Two tragedies marked Christmas' Eve. A policeman saw two men quarrelling to a street in Surrey Hills (Sydney suburb), but before he was able to reach them a shot was fired and one of thorn dropped dead. The constable chased the assailant, who turned and fired/wounding the conetable in the neck. The constable plucked out the bullet with his fingers, and succeeded m arresting the man after a desperate straggle. At Besley a butcher' battered his wife to death Svith the butt end of a gun, and then shot himself.
