CURTAILED TRAIN SERVICE
At last night’s meeting of the Pott. Chalmers Council the Mayor (Mr J. M. Stevenson) said Port Chalmers should taka strong .exception to the proposed curtailment of the train service. As a suburb of Dunedin Port Chalmers was entitled to the same consideration as other suburbs. The reduced train service was alleged to be a matter of shortage of coal, but the lorry -service which was to run during the train curtailment would consume more coal than, the trains which the ferry boat took the place of. Cr Tait supplemented the Mayor’s remarks, stating that the proposed curtailment was unfair. The council resolved to telegraph a protest to the Minister of Railways, and to send the Mayor and Crs Tait and Jones as a deputation to interview the Railway Traffio Manager, •with a view to securing tome relief.
