LIFE SAVING CLUB

The seventh annual report of the St. Clair Life Saving and Surf Bathing Club states :—The paM season was not no favorable as the previous one tor surf bathing, as there were fewer lengthy spoils of warm weather. Advantage was, however, taken of all favorable opportunities_ offering for engaging in this healthy pastime, and the season passed over without any accidents on the beach. The number of club members who have enlisted is now over 50. and wo regret to have to report that two of our earliest and moat enthusiastic members—T. Q. Robertson and Frank Gurr—have made the supremo sacrifice. Bo™ l were active and keen members of the club, and will be greatly missed on the beach. We also regret to have to record the deatn of Mr C. T. Paterson, one of our vicepresidents. Mr Paterson took a lively interest in the welfare of the club, and his death is a distinct loss to us. The membership roll shows a slight reduction tor the year; but, considering all the cijcnmstances, it is a matter for satisfaction that the membership has been so well maintained. Owing to tho fact that all our young and vigorous swimmers leave for camp as soon as they como of age, we have been unable to increase the strength of the life-saving branch of the club to the standard that we would like, as we are entirely dependent on the older members to maintain the efficiency of this department. The committee therefore desire Co impress on bathers the desirabilitycif taking no undue risks when bathing. The financial position continues satisfactory, and after writing off £47 for depreciation we have a surplus of £ls for tho year. We have now paid off our mortgage, and our only liability is our bank overdraft, which we hope to materially reduce each year. It is to toe hoped that the weather conditions for the coming season will be conducive to surfing, and that the club will be able to arrange for tho usual children's days on the beach, as these have been such an enjoyable feature of pa,st seasons. Tho committee desire to express their appreciation of the valuable assistance rendered by the Ladies’ Committee during the past, season, and trust that the affairs of the club will continue to prosper.
