TO-DAY’S SITTING. The Otago Military Service Board continued their sitting" iu the Magistrate's Court this morning. The Dunedin Fire Board appealed on behalf of John Thomas Hjmaun (secretary to the board) for extension., of leave to enable him to tpmploto the ac 4 pants for the financial year.—Allowed till July 30 draft. Tho Cocks and Stewards' Union a; pealed on babuls of T. Brugner, Arthur James Knapp. A. P. Russell, Edward Fleming, John Housego (stewards on troopships), and Fiedk. J. W. Moss (cook).—Conditional exemption granted, subject to review. Walter Henry Woods, shearer, Kaikorai (Mr Irwin), appealed on the ground of public interest.—Appellant said ho was ‘‘stacking” in tho freezing works just now, and Captain Free contended (hat this was not "essential work,” and that the question of exempting the man in view of next season’s shearing war, one that, in tho present war circumstances, should not lie co n side red. —.-I pp< a 1 dismissed. Tho case of Thomas James Campbell, engineer, was reopened at tho request of Captain Free, who said that tho reservist was no longer required for transport work. Captain Five explained that the application had been made because of the withdrawal of tho Union Company's appeal on behalf of the reservist, ami upon which conditional exemption had been granted. A competent engineer (a. C2 man), who had been acting as policeman in camp, had boon sent back, and Campbell (a First Division man) had been released.—ln reply to the chairman, the appellant said that lie bar! had "a hit of an argument' 1 with his foreman about overtime a few weeks ago.—Air Krili-tt said ho would like to be perfectly satisfied that no victimisation was taking place in this case. Dunedin (Air (Hanlon)’, appealed for extension of leave for three months. —Appellant said be was to undergo an operation for anpendinti* at the end of the month. lie hud served, in the South African War. and had enlisted twice for the present war, mid had no wish io shirk his responsibilities. —Adjourned for one month in tho meantime
John Cameron, railway fireman, ?t. Hilda (Air Hanlon), on the ground of undue hardship. —-Counsel explained that it was the desire of appellant’s mother that her son should stay, lie being her side support.—Referred to Air Camming for report. The appeals of George Campbell and Henry John Jacobs were allowed, appellants to be transferred to F Glass and C Class respectively. Keith Tbamsav applied for tho extension of leave for John Alfred Dryder., a sawyer, of Owaka.—Air Ramsay explained that the reservist (who was a volunteer) was tho only sawyer at this mill.—Two months’ extension allowed in the meantime.
