MINING.

The manager of the Kuranui mine re ports that driving on the Moanataian slide, with a view of intersecting Ross's reef, i s being continued. The country is highly mineralised. In the Sylvia Reefs mine the drive on the reef north of the main crosscut has been advanced, the reef being heavily mineralised. A fair quantity of ore has been won from the reef in the south end. The manager of the Tairua Broken Hills mine reports that the blue sulphide is no longer seen in No. 3 stope going south. No. 4 stope shows colors of gold, and the nibble gives fair dish prospects. The secretary of the Waitangi Consolidated reports that during the past week work has been in progress in No. 2 level, driving on the main reef. A further distance of 4ft 6in has been driven. The reef since passing through the break is coming in very solid, and is much harder to break. The footwall portion of the reef is looking much better, showing nic« minerals. TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED. The Talisman Consolidated Mining Company during September treated 1,500 tons of ore, yielding bullion valued at £14,560, as compared with £7,949 from 1,550 tons in September, 1916. The total won from the mine to date is £2,742,428. WA?HI GOLD MINING COMPANY.

The Waihi Gold Mining Company, dur ing the period ended. September 22 last, crushed and treated 16,369 tons of ore foi *_ return of bullion of an estimated value of £27,385. Compared with the return for the corresponding period of last year, when 15.576 tons yielded £26,462, this shows an increase of £923. The total amount won from the mine to date is £11,752,885. WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION. The following cablegram was sent last Thursday to the London office of the Waihi Grand Junction Gold Company, Ltd.: — "Wo are crushing 585 tons per 24 hours; the- extraction.is £1 14s 6d. No. 8 level, Empire footwall lodo: Drive east has been advanced to 560 ft. The average value for a width of 53in'is £1 17s lid. The south' wall is exposed. No. 4 rise is now up 50ft. The average value for a width'of 52in is £1 9s lid. No definite walls. Royal lode: West drive. has been advanced to 200 ft. The average value.for a width of 56in is £1 6s 4d. The south wall is exposed. , Crosscut at 190 ft shows the reef to be 55in wide, value £1 4s 3d. Both walls are exposed. Drive east has been advanced to 110 ft. The average value for a width of 69in is lis lid. The south waJJ is exposed."
