In presenting their fifth annual report and balance-sheet the directors of the Good Chance Dredging Company state that owing to tho long-continued height and unsteadiness of. combined with the largo quantity of drift in, the river during tho winter season, the company’s dredge was practio-ally idle all the year. The dredges operating in this particular gorge were working under similar conditions, and had tho same difficulty to contend with. The frost has now eot in, and it is expected that operations will lie commenced at an casiy date, so that shareholder® may look forward to dredging bom" continued till tho first or second week in November next, or perhaps longer. On every occasion that the dredgo bottomed and tho river kept low goocTr-etunis have been won, so that, given a favorable river this season, the company’s dredge will'no doubt win fine average returns, Mr Thos. Glendining is the retiring director. The, master of the Good Chance dredge, reporting under date of 4th inst., states that the river is going down to the level reouired for dredging The road was ready for traffic, and on Monday ho intended to drop tho dredge, back to where ho intended to start work.
