GENERAL HAMILTON

ARRIVED AT THE BLUFF TQ-DAY. HIS HEAET WARMS TO THE TARTAN. [Per United Press Assocuiion.] INVERCARGIL, April 27. General Sir lan Hamilton arrived at the Bluff by the Moeraki this morning. He was met by MajoT-Genexal Godley and the Mayor of the Bluff. After an inspection, of his body guard, General Hamilton said it was the first time he had come into contact -with New Zealand troops since the war in South Africa, where they rendered distinguished service. As a colonel who had served in the Gordon 'Highlanders all his military life, and who was now a colonel in the Came Tons, he was very pleased to see the tartan. He felt there was a likeness to the Old Country when he looked upon the tartans and the cut of the men comprising his bodyguard. The party reached Invercargill at 11 o'clock, and an inspection of the Cadets is now being held in the show grounds. The weather is fine, and there is a splendid turnout.

TO-MORROWS ARRANGEMENTS. The Inspector-General of Overseas Forces (General Sir lan Hamilton) will arrive at Dunedin this evening by the 7.5 train from the south. At the Oval to-morrow ho will inspect the Otago Garrison Artillery, and tho Dunedin, Otago, and Central Otago Cadets. The parade, under the command of Major Dodds, who will be assisted by Captain Hickey as brigade major, and Captain Glenduining as staff officer, will be drawn up in review order at 9.45 a.m. The Bth (Southland) Regiment Band will be E resent, and in all probability the memers of the St. John Ambulance, the Otago branch of the Veterans' Association, and other patriotic bodies. A feature of the parade will be the attendance of between 200 and 300 members of the newly-formed National Reserve, under the command of Ljeutenant-Colonel Stoneham.

Immediately the s.s. Moeraki came within wireless range yesterday the members of the Southland Pipe Band sent the following message l-o General Sir lan Hamilton: —'"Hie Southland Pipe Band extend you a hearty welcome to New Zealiaiid," to which tho General replied: ''Fraternal greetings to your famous band.—lan Hamilton."
