The death, occurred at Balmacewen last night of Miss Mary M'Glashan, the second of the seven daughters of tho late Mr John M'Glashan, who was Provincial Treasurer when Mr Macandrew was Superintendent. Captain J. Henry, of Eketahuna, has been appointed inspector for the Wellington .Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Salvation Army promotions: Ensign Rose Bath, of the Dunedin Rescue Home, to be adjutant; Captain Louisa Pile, of the Dunedin Rescue Homo, to bo ensign. At tho annual meeting of tho South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid "Board, Mr Gillingha-m was elected chairman for the seventh term, and the secretary, Mr H. S. Russell, was vofed £SO increase of salary. A Svdn-ey cablegram announces- that tho chess championship of New South Wales has been won by Mr D. Macarthur.
