THE CITY MAYORALTY

Or W. Begg, who presided over Mr J. B. Shacklock'e meeting in the North-east Valley Town Hall on Saturday night, referred to tho candidate's well-known business ability and Iris long municipal experience. Mr Shacklock, in the com-?© of his address, contended that municipal management of large construction works had never. proved satisfactory. Replying to a question, he said he thought that future revision of tramway fares would provide for cheaper travel to the various termini, encouraging people to live there under better and more open conditions, and so relieving the congestion within the penny sections. Mr Geo. Calder moved and Mr Geo. Burt seconded— "That Mr J. B.

Shacklock is the most fit and proper person to occupy the mayoral chair far the ensuing term." This was carried unanimously.

The" voting at tho mayoral election on Wednesday will be simpler than was the case last year, as there will be no 'City Council, Hospital Board, or Haa'bor Board election taking place. Each elector will havo one voting paper only to mark. Cr Marlow has arranged for a series of lantern views of Waipori to bo shown at the Art Gallery to-morrow night. The greater part of these are new slides, and will enable tho audience to understand tho late breakdown. Cr Marlow is sure to have something interesting to say on this .subject. He will also speak for 30 minutes on municipal affairs. His Worship the Mayor will preside.
