OTAGO CRICKET ASSOCIATION

The committee of the Otago Cricket Association met ]ast evening, Mr J. J. Clarke in the chair. The Secretary reported that 124 honorary ■members' tickets had been sent out. and that 27 had been returned, the sum of £ll lis having been received. A letter was received from the Canterbury association with reference to the Otago and Canterbury jubilee, suggesting that a veterans' match between the provinces be held at Christ-church the day before Christinas, and that the annual Otago v. Canterbury match be held on December 25. 26, and 27.—Messrs Clark. Martin, Thomson, Fisher. Ritchie, and Hope were appointed a sub-committee to arrange for representative veterans to play for Otago at Christchurch. With reference to the return match between the provinces, the committee suggested February 15. 14. and 16, as the dates for this match, provided they did not clash with the dates on -which matches had been arranged for the Australian team. The Secretary of the Otago Cricket League wrote stating that a "meeting of the committee had discussed the question of becoming affiliated to the association, but as they were not- in a very good financial position at present they would consider the proposal at a later'date. The Wellington association wrote, suggesting January 9, 10, and 12 for their representative match against Otago.—The dates were approved of. Mr D. Smyth forwarded his resignation, owing to ill-health, as secretary of the Umpires' Association.—lt was decided lo thank Mr Smyth for his past services to the association, and to express the hope that he would speedily be restored to health. It was resolved that a letter be sent to Mr Hopkins, -who is leaving for Sydney, expressing the association's appreciation of what- he had done in the interests of cricket while in Dunedin, and conveying to Mr Hopkins their best- wishes for his future welt are. It was decided to circularise the club captains, through the various secretaries, asking them to see that as little time as possible is lost between wickets, also in cases where umpires may be late in arriving that they be asked to appoint temporary umpires. In view of the interprovincial match at Christchurch at Christmas time, it was decided to arrange for a practice wicket at Carisbrook on December 8 for the benefit of those selected to practice.
