THE MAORI HILL POST OFFICE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln your issue of the 12th inst. there appeared a paragraph to the effect that "the Hon. J. T. Paul, M.L.C., who is at present in Dunedin, has for some time been making energetic efforts to have established in Maori Hill a post office. He fi-usisiested to the department, etc." While this statement may be quite correct as to facts, Mr Paul certainly leaves the impression on the minds of my constituents that this Work was carried out by him, wheTeas I have had this and other matters referring to Maori Hill in hand for the past three months, and have carried them through without any delay on my part to a successful issue. I knew that Mr Paul had been spoken to. about these matters, but I was not aware that he was in communication with the department concerned indepedent of me. While Tocognising that anyone, is at liberty to urge forward any desirable work, and while I am personally always ,crlad to have the co-operation of any, public man in the work I am undertaking, I may point out that I am the member for the district in question, and it is certainly a breach of etiquette for a member of the Upper House to come in between a member of Parliament and his constituents. T thought better of Mr Paul than to find him coming before the public of Dunedin North and claiming the credit for the work which I have been mainly instrumental in carrying through.—l am., etc., Gko. M. Thomson. Wellington. August 21.
