THE KING’S THEATRE. The novel turn presented by the Vagges at the King’s Theatre was again much appreciated by a large audience last evening. The other members of the company all provide enjoyable turns. . HAYWARDS’ PIOTURES. Tho new programme at the Burns Hall was witnessed bv another large audience last evening, 'The views of the Avon, Christchurch, are particularly interesting. There are also some good dramatic and comic pictures included in the programme. FULLERS’ PICTURES. ‘The Ticket-of-Lcave Man’ is the big draw at the Princess Theatre just now. There are other pictures, too, of a most interesting, instructive, and amusing nature. 'The same programme will be presented for the last time to-night. ‘A NIGHT WITH SIR W. SCOTT.’ A concert will be given in the High Street Public Hall this evening in aid of the school funds. The Burns Club Choir have given their services, in addition to which a number of favorite vocalists have volunteered their services. Children will sing and recite, and Mr W. B. MacEwan will give a lecture on Sir Walter Scott. The school funds ought to bo considerably augmented. HUDDERSFIELD BELLRINGERS’ BAND. A musical event of the year will be the visit of the Huddersfield Bellringers’ Band, under the banner of Messrs J. and N. Tait, opening at the Garrison Hall on Friday next. Like the famous Besses o’ th’ Barn, the band are composed almost exclusively of working men, who devoted their leisure to the cultivation, of the beautiful art of campanology. In the first stages of their existence tit© band had a. trying time, like many similar organisations, but since 1900, when Professor Albert Townend took the post of conductor, their success has been phenomenal, and now they have the unique honor of being champions of Great Britain. Practically a world’s record has been obtained by the baud during the last eight years in winning 11 contests out of 12’ entries, also many medals and cups. The Australasian tour of the band will start ah Dunedin, so its success should bo certain. The plan for the season is now- open at the Dresden, and day sale tickets may be obtained at Jacobs’s. SCOTCH CONCERT. Readers are reminded that ‘A Night with Sir Walter Scott’ Scotch concert, in aid Of Hie. High Street School swimming club baths fund, will be hold this evening in the school gymnasium. A first-class programme has been arranged, and a capital night of Scottish song and story is promised. BAND OF HOPE COMPETITIONS. The Band of Hope competitions have now become one of the most popular of annual fixtures, and this year a forward step has been taken by the executive in engaging the Art Gallery for all the meetings, during the last week in October, Most of the juvenile champions at the* recent Dunedin competitions received their elocutionary training in the Bands of Hope, and will be taking part in these contests. The schedule of items has been still further extended, a competition for reading at sight and a tableaux competition having been added. This latter should be very attractive. Meetings will commence each evening at 6.30. This is not a commercial undertaking, ai.d the price of admission has been fixed at the low- price of 6d, or transferable season tickets for the six nights 2s, so that everybody may come and encourage the children. Admission for children is Id onlv.
