A Newcastle (N.S.W.) cable advises the death of Mr James Thompson, a wellknown stud master, after a short illness.
The Southland Presbytery yesterday nominated the Rev. A. Cameron, of Anderson Ray, as. Moderator for tho Assembly for 1912. The ’Presbytery sustained the call from the Maori Hill congregation to the Rev. H. 11. Barton, of Limestone Plains.
Mr Arthur A. Paa.pe, who has been appointed raocretary of tlio New Zealand Sports Protection Lcaguo, left Invercargill by tho second express yesterday lo take up his new duties in Wellington. Mr Paape was given a cordial send-off by a largo crowd of friends. Mr Paane has been the recipient of presentations from more than a dozen bodies with which ho was associated.
Tho public bodies of South Canterbury are taking action to mark in some tangible shape the parliamentary connection of Sir W. J. Steward with tho district for the past 30 years.
