ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
The body of Captain Sivert Holland, of the lighter Moa, who had been missing rince Wednesday last, was found in the inner harbor at Napier yesterday, close to tho wharf where the Moa was usually moored. On the 24th nit. an inmate of the Avondale (Auckland) Mental Hospital named Johansen was working with another man, an Austrian, on the hospital farm, when ho was attacked by his companion and struck over the head with a. spade. Johansen was badly hurt, and war? medically attended to, but bo died yesterday. A fatal accident befell Edward Jones, aged 52. while following the Birchwood hunt adjacent to Lumcden township on Saturday. His horse stumbled whilst taking a fence, and Jones clung to tho reins, bnt fell heavily to the ground, fracturing his skull. Dr Copland, who was a- spectator, happened to be standing within 10 yards of the scene of tho accident, and at once went to tho assistance of Jones and rendered what aid was possible, and had Jones removed to his home, where he lingered until 7 a.m. on Sunday. Deceased was the son of Mr Edward Jones, butcher, of Lmnsdcn. At the inquest on the body of the young man Black, who was drowned in the Kakanui River, the coroner found that ho died from shock caused by falling into tho river.
